Aims:
• Integrate Transactional Analysis language and principles with theory around play.
• Promote play and creativity in therapeutic practice.
• Foster professional and personal skills.
• Develop confidence and practical skills for using play and creativity in therapy.
• Support ethical and reflective practice.
Day 1 Overview:
Building the foundations: Understanding the theory and importance of play.
Trainees will revisit key TA concepts and child development theories alongside play theory and
the idea of transitional space (Winnicott).
Making use of experiential learning, trainees will begin to explore how play and creativity can be
applied to therapeutic contexts.
Objectives:
• Understand the concept of Transitional Space
• Explore the therapeutic role of play
• Integrate play theory with TA theories and concepts
• Introduce video, role play and online gaming as therapeutic tools
• Begin to consider how these can be used in TA psychotherapy
Day 2 Overview:
Applying creative methods including video and online gaming and role play games to
transactional analysis
Objectives:
• Deepen understanding of role play and story telling as a therapeutic tool
• Address differences between individual and group dynamics in play (NB – Group work
may be a further 1 day training)
• Reflect on ethical and cultural implications and considerations
• Design TA Informed RPG interventions
• Begin to integrate theory and practice learnt over two days into own work
• Skills practice facilitation of creative methods
